About suicide in the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2011

              In the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2011 the number of deaths from suicide compared to 2010 decreased by 184 cases and counted to 3433 persons (2010 - 3617 persons), in urban - areas 1650 persons (1721 persons), in rural - 1783 persons (1896 persons).

In 2011 the number of suicides among men was 2822 persons (2971 persons), in urban areas - 1342 persons (1399 persons), in rural - 1480 persons (1572 persons). The number of suicides among women was 611 persons (646 persons), in urban areas - 308 persons (322 persons), in rural - 303 (173).

In 2011 the largest number of deaths from suicide occurred in the East Kazakhstan - 513 persons (560 persons), Almaty - 390 persons (392 persons), Karagandy - 389 persons (454 persons) and Kostanai - 362 persons (340 persons) areas. The least amount was observed in Kyzylorda - 52 persons (59 persons), Mangistau - 58 persons (68 persons), Atyrau – 76 persons (88 persons) areas.

In 2011 the number of suicides among children and youth (7-29 years) compared to 2010 decreased by 111 cases and counted to 1175 persons (1286 persons). Distribution of suicides by age group was as follows 15-19 years - 244 persons (291 persons), 20-24 years - 415 persons (430 persons), 25-29 years - 452 persons (491 persons). Among men in the age groups 15-19 years - 147 persons (184 persons), 20-24 years - 340 persons (344 persons), 25-29 years - 387 persons (414 persons). Among women age 15-19 years - 97 persons (107 persons), 20-24 years – 75 persons (86 persons), 25-29 years - 65 persons (77 persons).

In urban areas mortality rate of suicides per 100 000 thousand persons in the age groups 7-29 years was 14.7 (16.4), 10-14 years - 3.4 (3.2), 15-19 - 11.5 (14.1), 20-24 years - 21.3 (19.9), 25-29 years - 22.9 (29.9). Mortality rate from suicides per 100 000 thousand men in the age group 7-29 years was 23.1 (25.9), 10-14 years - 3.3 (2.5), 15-19 - 13, 7 (20.1), 20-24 years - 36.8 (32.5), 25-29 years - 38.8 (51.1) among women in the age groups 7-29 years - 6.5 (7.1), 10-14 years - 3.5 (3.8), 15-19 years - 9.2 (8.2), 20-24 years - 7.3 (8.2), 25-29 years - 7.9 (9.7).

In rural areas mortality rate of suicides per 100 000 thousand persons in the age groups 7-29 years - 22.9 (24.7), 7-9 years - 0.8 (0.3), 10-14 years – 7.2 (9.1), 15-19 years - 23.5 (26.0), 20-24 years - 30.9 (35.1), 25-29 years - 42.4 (42.1). Mortality rate from suicides per 100 000 thousand men in the age group 7-29 years was 34.6 (36.6), 7-9 years - 1.5 (0.5), 10-14 years – 8.8 (13.1), 15-19 years - 27.4 (29.6), 20-24 years - 48.2 (54.8), 25-29 years - 72.8 (70.0), among women in the age groups 7-29 years - 10.4 (12.0), 10-14 years - 5.4 (5.0), 15-19 years - 19.2 (22.1), 20-24 years - 11.9 (13.7), 25-29 years - 10.4 (12.8).
